"The 13-year-old female, believed to be a disabled person, and the man aged in his 30's were transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in serious but stable conditions suffering non-fatal drowning symptoms," National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) Craig Lambinon said in a statement on Wednesday.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said that when they didn't return by nightfall, the man's wife and friends raised the alarm and civilians on jet-skis launched a search party.
They had lost sight of their dad and they started to swim to shore,” said Lambinon.
NSRI Wilderness duty crew were alerted at 9.45pm on Friday night to reports of a 45-year-old Cape Town man missing in the Swartvlei, the lake at Pine Lake Marina between Sedgefield and Knysna, NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon said.

In the first incident, which happened at around 14:40, a bystander rescued a local man from the water who appeared to get into difficulty after being caught in a rip current, according to NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
"At 17h15 NSRI Station 10 Simonstown and CMR (Cape Medical Response) responded to Buffels Bay following reports from TMNP (Table Mountain National Park) rangers of four people, three females and a male, being swept out to sea by rip currents," NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.
"The teenager was treated by paramedics for non-fatal drowning symptoms and transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition," said Lambinon.
According to Craig Lambinon, NSRI spokesperson, it is believed that the man stopped breathing from unknown causes during an underwater scuba dive.
The City water rescue network was activated at 6.30pm by law enforcement, who were on the scene, NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.
