Six minutes later North west MEC for Education, Sello Lehari, publicly announced on the school hall’s stage that she was suspended.
North West Education MEC Sello Lehari met various stakeholders at the school on Wednesday in an attempt to calm the tense situation.

“It’s not like the MEC [Sello Lehari] had a crystal ball when he went to the school,” said Lehari’s spokesperson, Freddy Sepang, amid a charge by union Solidarity that Barkhuizen is a “sacrificial lamb”.
Sello Lehari visited the school again on Wednesday where he met with the school's management and the teacher responsible for the grade R class where black and white pupils were seated at separate tables.
Hermann placed the blame on Sello Lehari, who is the MEC for Education in the North West.
It would also "announce certain steps to be taken" against the North West's Education MEC, Sello Lehari, whose "hasty and populist actions" led to Barkhuizen’s suspension, Solidarity chief executive Dr Dirk Hermann said.
Still, the ANC managed to cause an enormous outcry over the Schweizer-Reneke photo and MEC Sello Lehari was there almost immediately to suspend the (wrong) teacher.

"From the information I got from the meeting, it seems that there are a lot of cases here of racism," provincial Education Minister Sello Lehari said after visiting the school.
